The Artists:

Phoebe Vernier “ La Fibi” is one of SF’s
premier Flamenco Dancers. She has
studied, taught and performed Flamenco
Dance since 1983. She has studied in
Spain and in the U.S. With La Monica, La
Tania, Isa Mura, Rosa Montoya, Maria
Magdelena, Jose Antonio, La Tati,
Farruquita, Maria Benitez, Luis Ortega,
Rafael Campallo, Jose Galvan, Rocio
Molina and Juana Amaya. La Fibi has
performed extensively in the Bay Area as
a featured Soloist. She has danced in the
companies of Rosa Montoya’s Bailes
Flamencos, La Tania Music and Dance,
Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco, and
has toured nationally with The Boston
Flamenco Ballet, The Company of Rinaldo
Rincon, the renowned Maria Benitez
Spanish Dance Company, and the Madrid
based “Compania Noche Flamenca” at
the Hollywood Bowl. She was a member
of the Sol y Luna Band and Cuadro
Flamenco for six years, where she sang
backup and danced Flamenco/Rumba
fusion as well as traditional flamenco. She
currently teaches extensively in Sonoma
County in Petaluma, and as is an invited
guest instructor for national flamenco
workshops and festivals. She performs
regularly with  Arte y Compas, and Toque
Flamenco in San Francisco. She is the
Artistic Director of
LA FIBI FLAMENCO, and
presents the Bay Area’s finest flamenco
artists in her exciting shows -

Amanda Pineda began her dance career
at the age of 12. Her love of flamenco
led her to continue her training in Spain
where she studied at Amor de Dios in
Madrid. She performed in Las Cuevas de
Nemesio where Raul chose her for his
dance company. She performed with
Raul in Palma De Mallorca and Florida
Park in Madrid. She began working in
dance companies, which led her to
travel throughout Europe. She performed
with Carmen Mota in the Canary Islands,
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Portugal. She also
performed with Antonio del Castillo in
Taragona, Barcelona, and with Maria
Miranda in Andorra, and Portugal. With
Mario Maya she performed in Sevilla,
Barcelona and Italy. She has performed in
La Feria de Sevilla. With Los Marismenos,
she toured, performing in Las Ferias de los
Pueblos. In Mexico D.F., she performed in
el Tablao "Gitanerias". In Morroco
(Marruecos) she performed in Rabat, in El
Hotel Hassan. She began touring in Spain
and expanded to nearly the rest of the
world, where she shared the international
stage with the best flamenco performers,
including José Galván, Mario Maya , Pepa
La Rumbera,Carmen Mota, El Pinto, Juan
Del Gastor, Rafael de Pata Negra, El Cara
Papa. She also travelled to Finland as an
instructor and performer. Throughout her
dance career she has also performed
with her own groups, one of them called "
Los Gitanillos de Espana "which toured to
England and Columbia ,South America.
With "Menta y Canela ". She toured
Portugal with this group. Ms Pineda came
back to the States in 1992. She then
joined Charo and toured Hawaii with her
and the Caribbean Islands. In the Bay
Area she has been perfomed at El Bolero,
Zangria Latin Supper Club with La Fibi
Flamenco, and Theatre Flamenco of San
Francisco.

Pamela Martinez is from Chile where she
first studied Flamenco and turned
professional.  There she studied with
Miguel Jorda, a gypsy dancer from
Mendoza, Argentina living in Santiago,
Chile and then with his son, also Miguel
Jorda. She has worked with the best
artists in that country and established
several academies of flamenco dance
there.  She continued her studies in
Argentina, Spain and here in the United
States.  During her first visit to the U.S., she
worked with Ernesto Hernandez’ Los
Flamencos de la Bodega and Theatre
Flamenco of San Francisco as well as in
numerous festivals and tablaos
throughout the Bay Area.  She is also an
accomplished Chilean folkloric dancer
and choreographer and was involved in
many tours in South America as well as
with Chilean folkloric groups here in the U.
S.  She has recently returned to the U.S.
with her guitarist, husband Geoffrey
Hawkins and dedicates herself
completely to teaching and performing
Flamenco dance working in the Santa
Rosa area and in Petaluma with the
dancer La Fibi.

Paco Albiac was born in Sevilla, Spain. He
came from a family background of
singers, flamenco dancers & musicians.
He started singing flamenco “cante” at
the age of 6. At the age of 15 he started
to perform with Raimundo and Rafael
Amador “Pata Negra”. From then on he
became know for his musicianship and
expertise as a Flamenco Bass player. He
now resides in San Francisco and shares
his flamenco experiences with the Bay
Area.

Geoffrey Hawkins is an American
professional guitarist who studied guitar
for many years in Spain and here in the
United States.  He began his studies with
Mariano Cordoba in California, continued
his study in Madrid, Spain with classical
maestro Aureo Herrero.  He has studied
with Agustin Rios and Juan Del Gastor,
both nephews of the famous guitar player
Diego del Gastor and that gypsy style
from Moron de la Frontera continues to
infuse and influence his “toque”
flamenco.  He has accompanied the
dance classes of Concha Vargas in the
famous bar La Carboneria in Sevilla and
in the U.S. many of the dance academies
in the S.F. Bay area including Rosa
Montoya, Theatre Flamenco of S.F., the
San Jose Flamenco Society, and Diana
Alejandre.  He has recently returned from
Chile where he lived for almost four years
performing and teaching with his wife,
Pamela Martínez and the flamencos in
Santiago.  Professionally,he has
accompanied many fine artists in Spain,
here in the U.S. and in Chile.  He is also an
aficionado of Cante Flamenco and has
sung for many classes and flamenco
presentations.

Ruben Vernier has been playing the cajon
and performing for student and
professional level flamenco shows since
the age of 12. He has accompanied "La
Vainilla", Jaime del Rio, Paco Albiac,
Antonio and Virginia Juan, Roberto
Zamora, David Carrol Geoffrey Hawkins,
Mark Taylor, David Guiteriez, Juan Moyoli,
La Romera, Pamela Martinez, and "La
Fibi". He has grown up immersed in the
flamenco/show business world of his
mother and grandmother. Along with
playing the cajon/palmas for flamenco
dance classes and performances, he
studies flamenco and ballroom dance,
acting, symphonic/marching band, and is
an active skier, football and baseball
player. Ruben and his partner Veronica
were awarded the Second Place Prize in
the Marin County Fair Amateur Salsa
Competition. He has studied with his
Uncle Damian Mantle, Rami Ziadeh, Paul
Mousavi, Federico Moreno, and Pedro
Sanchez "Naranjito, Hijo".
